The Maker’s Paradox : Out of Focus

 'Out of Focus' explores the relationship between maker and tool — how each shapes the other. Inspired by the jeweler’s 10x magnifying glass, this series reimagines a tool of precision and authority as jewelry itself. Traditionally used to judge a gem’s flaws and value, the magnifier becomes a symbol of how we construct “objectivity.” Once transformed into adornment, it loses neutrality — turning self-referential, ironic, even absurd. When the tool that defines value becomes the object of value, power shifts: who truly decides what is precious — the gem, the tool, or the hand that holds it?

 Each piece is hand-crafted in London by jewelry artist Xuan Xu.
